Window Tint - The law, I think??

In light of my ticket I decided to look it up and I found this:

http://www.askthe.police.uk/content/Q403.htm

Q: How dark can I tint my windows?

A: In the windscreens (including rear windscreen) and front side windows of motor vehicles first used after 1st April 1985 there must be a minimum of 75% of light allowed through the window (for vehicles first used before 1/04/85 min of 70%). The windows that are exempted from this are any windows, which the driver when sat in the driving seat is unable at any time to see any part of the road on which the vehicle is situated whether proceeding or waiting. The only exempt windows would be then, the rear windows on both sides.

So that means I wouldn't be allowed to have my rear window tinted on the back :eyes:

Can we not have a traffic officer registered on here who can enlighten us!

right, here's a VOSA guide about Window tinting questions.
These are the people who make the laws, reccomendations and everything else that the police use to prosecute people with tinted windows.
AT NO POINT IS THE REAR WINSCREEN MENTIONED!!!!!

http://www.vosa.gov.uk/vosacorp/reposito...202005.pdf
Its a questions and answers sheet, it tells you the name of each regulation affecting window tint and also tells you how much light must pass through the front windows legally.
Did you also know the age of a car affects how much light has to pass through? Not sure why but it does.
Hope this finally clears up any confusion as this is straight from the horses mouth so to speak. These are the people who ultimatly make the rules and giudelines that the police use
