i think its down to several things

- people who have been doing it for years and are fed up with it or have done everything they want to and have now decided its time to say goodbye
- its not as friendly as it used to be, forums are changing and losing members by charging etc (not aimed at this site inparticular but all sites)
- shows being expensive
- the cost to modify, insure etc, people who have children, mortgages etc may not necessarily have the cash to do both... mortgage payments keep going up, rent is high and the general cost of living is going up and the wages aren't compensating it
- childish idiots who ruin shows etc for everyone else by falling out and bitching may make people fed up and wonder why they bother

Theres nothing about modding cars to do with age. It just depends if you do it chav or not. A set of alloys is just the begining there is so much poeple can try for themselves.

Glad vwtom agrees with my last post. I just hate people on sites like that sometimes they don't think i can do what i am doing and start to make fun of me. But in the end i prove them wrong

its all dying down because of the odd twats here and there who think they are tommy makkinen trying to show off and crashing which is wrecking it for everyone else because the coppers think its everyone else also theres no where to go anymore because if you sit down in somewhere like mansfield for example and the coppers are straight there trying to do you for nothing ive only been driving a year now but i was into modified cars about 5 year ago and for me i dont think that will change as i love it its something to do and the other thing what puts people off aswell is the fact that they cant have there cars looking like max power ones in about a few week it takes a year or more to get a car looking nice how you want it really but anyway thats what i think

Now, you smell of smoke, or are seen smoking outside you are looked at like your doing something wrong..

Same as mobile phones whilst driving.. 2/3 years ago, NO ONE blinked an eye at you if you were driving on the phone..

Now, if i have it wedged between my head and shoulder and im driving i get people waggin fingers and calling me allsorts thru their windows..

Its about things being socially acceptable.. and modding your car (thanks to bad press, people crashing and dying and anti social behaviour) is now becoming not socially acceptable!

What we need is a massive (and i mean MASSIVE) public relations/media spotlight type event or something that raises the profile of the modified car enthusiast!

There are still a lot of people that modifiy their car, but many of them are not part of the "scene" if ya get me?

makes me laugh when people say "nova's and corsa's are chavs cars"..... fact of the matter is there cheap to run, cheap to insure and for new drivers there ideal cos there not too powerful (apart from the c20xe'd ones!)

the main thing i can see thats killing the scene is laws and accidents, when someone you know is involved in an incident like recently, then it makes others sit up and think. but as someone already pointed out, its a good thing as it will show the true enthusiasts.

i also think its caused by max power flaunting too many women in the mags!

its true though, a lot of younger drivers (including girls) have novas/corsas/saxos because insurance is too high for other cars....

im happy with mine even after some of the performance cars ive had, but it aint a 1.0/1.2 like most
