waste gate "chatter" question

I know a few people dont like it.

But how do I achieve waste gate "chatter" or what ever you want to call it?

I know it might sound a dumb question, just someone I know has a pug 207 gt turbo and wants to try and achieve this.

any help will be greatfully recieved, cocky comments will not

cheers

Change your Pipes to solid hoses and a good open air filter

The noise your after is pressure coming back through the turbo when you lift off.

So either have No DV or have one adjusted so it opens only on higher boost.

My 200 Should sound like this 200sx next week is that the sound your after?

cue some said fucker to go find a huge explaination of what it actually is, when we all know what noise we're talking about. Icon_lol

here's some other 'wrongs' for everyone.......

1. the colour white, is not a colour really
2. gravity doesn't pull u downwards
3. centrifugal force does not even exist

back on topic.......

normally the bigger the turbo & the higher the boost, the louder the chatter.

Sounds like a job for me! Icon_lol

IT'S NOTHING TO DO WITH THE WASTEGATE. Ahh....that's better.

Like Ollie said, it's air stalling the compressor wheel in the turbo. When you have a blow-off valve, lifting off the throttle actuates it and releases the built-up boost pressure from the inlet tract.

Without a blow-off, what happens is that when you lift off the throttle, the throttle body butterfly closes and the boost pressure that the turbo just built up now has nowhere to go. When this happens, the excess pressure finds the only way out; back through the turbo. The fluttering sound is the noise of the pressurised air coming back across the turbine blades the wrong way "stalling" the compressor wheel.

As Newth commented, the larger the boost, the louder the sound, but it's widely recommended that around 17-18psi is the maximum before you risk serious damage to the turbo bearings.

If your mate wants it on his Pug then he'll have to remove the standard BOV and bung up the holes. It's not advisable to do this with catalytic converters in-place though if the car is fitted with a Hot Film Mass sensor. This is because when the air comes back through the turbo, it obviously escapes through the HFM sensor, and ultimately, the air filter. All the HFM sensor sees is a load of extra air, and tells the engine management to add extra fuel for it. As the air is going the wrong way, it escapes, and the extra fuel is added to the engine uneccessarily causing it to be unburnt. This unburnt fuel then comes out the cylinders and into the exhaust, where due to the intense heat, it combusts. This will kill a cat in no time at all, which is why removing the BOV to achieve compressor stall is only advised with no cats fitted (something for you to know too Ollie).

*insert witty remark here*
