The Good Garage Scheme
xxx.goodgaragescheme.co.uk
this scheme seems to be popping up everywhere but the scheme does not work on merit quality and reliability you get into the scheme if you buy service bits from Forte and pay a monthly subscription or you pay a one off subscription so in my eyes this scheme can harbour dodgy bad garages and you wouldnt know from the false advertising that they are giving
"Using the Good Garage Scheme, you'll find local independent garages you can trust. Be assured that every garage listed performs services to a strict standard and will always have your best interests at heart.
We're run by Forté and are dedicated to driving up standards in the car service and repair market, ensuring consumers get a fair deal. To find out more about Forté visit their website"
A good garage scheme in my opinion should only have good garages after they have performed well, on it and not dodgy incompitant garages that pay a subscription!! Im not saying they are all dodgy but they can easily slip into the scheme.
Take a look at their website. The majority of garages round here claim to be electronics specialists yet they all bring their cars down to us to repair even basic stuff. Some claim to do engine diagnostics but dont even have basic generic scanners.
What are your opinions?

RE: The Good Garage Scheme
some garages already charge stupid prices anyway and paying a monthly subscirption wil add cost.
im sure most people who own a car have there own mechanic or garages they use and trust or they would ask a friend who they use, so a scheme like this would be pointless.

RE: The Good Garage Scheme
this is the point. Take granny smith for eg wants her car servicing but knows no-one in the trade. Her first point of call is a government aproved website that then sends her to bill and bens back street garage thats ticks all the boxes on the service sheet but only checks the coolant level but they do subscribe to the good garage scheme

RE: The Good Garage Scheme
typically granny smith has family or friends who will more than likely know some1.
serisouly mate i doubt many people would not use this service unless they have been bummed by bill and bens back street garage.
dont forget one person my use say garage A and have no problem then he will tell his "friend" and he will also take it to garage A and be unhappy with garage A.
then the "friend" will go to garage B who will do the opposite job to garage A.

RE: The Good Garage Scheme
I think you are missing the point completely.
Olstar understands the point. You dont pay to become a reliable garage you produce good work to become reliable
eg D sets up a garage on his front garden buys a halfords socket set and a halfords set of spanners.
You have no chance of doing a lot of jobs but if you pay your subscription then you can be on the good garage scheme taking bookings from them, even though you have no track record.

RE: The Good Garage Scheme
A good garage to an extent is only as good as the customer is with them too dont forget-you can have a good garage thats fucked about by some idiot that didnt explain exactly what he/she wanted done that`ll then get a bad rep by him/her tellin everyone that the place is crap, theres 2 sides to every story,i know there really is some crap places but ya can get 2 different views of the same place based on how the individual is with them.
