Power Cap
Ive just purchased a power cap to put into my car.
Firstly it needs to be charged up. You have to put the +ve from the battery to one end of the bulb then a wire from the other end of the bulb to the power car to the power cap. When the bulb goes out its charged, whats the best way to do this?
To wire it up would it just be easier buying another amp wiring kit it wire it up?? I know i can use the speaker cable in the kit for other things.
Also do u just wire it up +ve from the battery to + terminal on power cap them +ve wire from the same terminal to the amp? Do you need to keep the +ve from the battery separate from the +ve wire? I.E Not letting the terminals touch.
Then just take the earth from the - terminal on the power cap to the car body?
Thanks in advance

that diagram should clear it up. good work.
to charge it, do what u've just said. if u've not got the proper leads, u can charge a cap with jump leads & a car indicator bulb. connect the jump leads to ur car battery. now connect the earth lead to the earth terminal on the cap. Hold the bulb in the positive end of the jump leads, ie grab it with the croc clip. next, place the centre/bottom of the bulb down onto the positive terminal of the cap. ENSURE THE POSITIVE LEAD ONLY TOUCHS THE OUTSIDE OF THE BULB & NOT THE POSITIVE CAP TERMINAL! as u do this, the bulb will light up for a small amount of time. when it has totally gone out, the cap is charged. to check, put a voltmeter across the cap. when totally disconnected from anything else & it should read between 10 & 13 volts, depending on ur battery.
the easiet way to install one, is to place it very close to the amp. TAKE THE UNDER BONNET FUSE OUT FIRST. make sure the power cable running to ur amp can pass over the caps positve terminal. where it does, cut the cable through at that point. connect a ring terminal to each cut end & connect both of those to ur caps positive terminal. now run a second earth wire from where ever u have earthed the amp, to the earth terminal on the cap. job done, once the fuse it back in.
ps obladeo, how do u have 3 & a half caps? lol

So there isnt much point in buying another wiring kit then?? Just use what ive got??
Also are the terminals on the +ve of the power cap touch?? I.E the one from the battery to the power cap then the one from the power cap to the amp???
Also which should go on first??
Also with regarding to cutting the +ve cable i think that i will just disconnect it from the battery first to eliminate any problems!

just get a length of earth cable & a couple of rings terminals
Also are the terminals on the +ve of the power cap touch?? I.E the one from the battery to the power cap then the one from the power cap to the amp???
errr, i think ur right, but not sure what ur asking. the wire comes from the battery onto the positive terminal on the cap, then from the same positive terminal on the cap to the amp
Also which should go on first??
Which what?

Very wise

Should the terminal ring on the wire from the battery and the terminal ring from the amp cable touch when on the +ve terminal of the power cap or should there be a spacer between each terminal ring?? Or doesnt it matter?
Should the power cable which goes to the amp go on the power cap terminal first or should the cable from the battery go on first? Or doesnt it matter??

matters not mate on the order, now i see what u mean.
yes they should be touching, try to make the electrical connection as good as u can.
suggested order to work......
1. remove fuses or main power cable from battery.
2. cut power cable & attach rings
3. charge cap
4. attach new rings to the +ive cap terminal
5. attach new earth wire to the cap -ive terminal
6. attach new earth wire to the car
7. put fuses back in etc. (don't be suprised if u get a little spark)

Thats alrite then cos in the instructions it says you have to connect the amp to the power cap first and earth it then charge it.
Just thinking about it tho, doesnt it defeat the purpose of having a power cap if the wire from the battery to the power cap and the wire from the power cap to the amp are touching?
Now i know what im doing 100% now.
Thanks for the help guys.

just think of the cap as another little battery, wired in parallel. So no, it has to be touching to work.
