RE: people's opinion on these
that item has been removed but yes the 328 is a 6 pot. its not been mentioned but a 323 is the same engine as the 325 but with a restricted manifold/exhaust and slightly different ecu program. this can easily be overcome by a few reasonably cheap mods. it might be worth you getting on e36coupe.com as theres all sorts of info that might be of use to you.
Tourers tend to have higher mileage than other models but if u buy a 6 pot version it shouldnt be something to worry about if it has got service history.the 4 pots are good for at least 200k with tlc and the 6 pots even more. theres also the 320 which has a 2.0 litre 6pot. they are classed about the same to insure as a 318 but with the brilliant sound of 6 cylinders.
for reference;
318 1.8 8v 114bhp (if i remember correctly)
318 1.8 1.8 16v 140bhp (pre 1996)
318 1.9 1.9 16v 140bhp (post 1996)
320 2.0 24v 150bhp ('90-'99)
323 2.5 24v 170bhp ('96-'99)
325 2.5 24v 192bhp ('92-'96)
328 2.8 24v 193bhp ('94-'99)
i might be slightly out on some of the years but it gives you an idea of the engines available and what age cars are they will be in

theres plenty of reputable places that do turbo and s/c kits for bmws. one of the best in the uk is ca-at.co.uk. supercharging is more popular in the uk but theres plenty of cars in the usa and europe with a turbo. sc kits typically bolt straight on but turbos usually need more work.

Nikasil isn't the only problem with 2.8s.
The blocks sink.
When taking head bolts out, the threads come with it.
Go for an Iron block M50 2.5.
Will be much better for turbo charging.

RE: people's opinion on these
It should be in the service book of the car.
If it's still on a Nikasil block now, it will be OK.
There are still Nikasil problems about.
As for not hardly seeing it, you must not get around many BMW forums. I've seen lots of problems.
