Oil advice and recommendations here

I get asked many questions about oil so I thought a thread here for all oil related questions would be a good idea and build into a FAQ or reference point for others.

So, put your oil questions here but please give the following information if you would like a recommendation:

Make
Model
Year
Engine size/type

Any mods

Type of use (road/track)

Additional info (max oil temps, current oil used)

What do you want a recommendation for? Engine, Gearbox etc?

I hope this will help and become a useful thread

Regards
Guy

10w-40 Castrol would not be the best choice as it is a semi synthetic, these things really deserve a decent synthetic. If you plan plenty of hard use over the summer have a look at 10w-50, if its mainly cruising 5w-40 will be fine.

For the gearbox, diffs and transfer the Silkolene Syn5 75w-90.

Cheers

Guy.

RE: Oil advice and recommendations here

Seems to be good stuff, once I've got an engine under the bonnet I can give it a whirl.

Once the engine is run in a good shear stable 5w-40 synthetic, ideal.

For the gearbox a good synthetic 75w-80 or 75w-90, plenty to choose from but I would have a look at the likes of Silkolene, Redline and Motul.

Cheers

Guy.
