RE: New Car Options
1.8 astra is underpowered tbh, shares the same engine as mine/kyles corsa but the weight difference doesnt help mpg/performance....
bora ftw!!!!!
infact, next door but 1 to me has a silver one for sale, i'll get a price for ya

RE: New Car Options
£2k for a rear diff and there common faults....
freelanders were built by rover group, not land rover, so the rear diff wasnt designed well. when you turn, it doesnt have any slip in any way, so you have 100% drive to each wheel at the same time, even though the inner wheel doesnt travel as far as the outer.....
not somethin ya can avoid either, unless ya drive straight everywhere!!! lol
only buy one if its had a new diff on, there known to go at random intervals! and also the 1.8's use the K series vvc rover engine.... head gasket hell!

RE: New Car Options
astra coupe is perfectly fine for mpg, as it is like any car, the more sensible you drive the better mpg.
parts are reasonably priced and is more than reliable when looked after.

RE: New Car Options
like D said, astra is a pretty mid range sort of car, not too expensive to run compared to similair rivals, fairly decent power (123bhp factory with 119lb/ft of torque) and parts are easy to come buy with a lot af non genuine available.
should be able to get an early bertone coupe for around 2k. just watch for bottom ball joints, play in the rack and high mileage (and make sure its had a cam change atleast 60k cos they do give easily)
