He's sat in the garage working away on it now, we've got 7 weeks, he's going to do some other bits whilst its out, so we can open the bonnet more, so fingers crossed time.

Bling or Carbon bits (we can't make our minds up), a few more things painted and colour coded and now it's not a daily runner its going to have a good clean.

He's just asked for the camera, so for a guess there will be up to date shots to look forward to.

I've already suggested we put cams in it whilst it's all apart.

The problem i had with the old block is that it could just be the piston rings.

But there is a chance it will require a rebore and then probably oversize pistons. Which then start to be come expensive.

I've opted for the replacement engine and stripdown to replace all gaskets, seals and water pump etc. Basically the usual shit that can go wrong and cause big headaches.

Plus I reckon I'll be breaking the engine to sell as it will offset the cost of the rebuild.

Update...

Had some goodies arrive for the engine today.

The engine is now on an engine stand, I thought I'd post about it.

But... how cool is it to be able to do this and not have to mess about with hoists and cranes to do it

The lightened flywheel has come back, We've managed to shave about 1.5lbs from a 12lb flywheel. Which isn't bad. You can go further and reduce upto 30% of the weight but..I happy with 15%

We've basically machined the inside of the wheel as you can see in the picture along with drilling 5mm hole around the outside of the wheel

Same with the underside of the wheel.

Also thanks to Adz with the mini cooper s for supplying me with some Denso Iridium spark plugs at the right price :
