Introducing the ACE
Hi everyone,
OK, I'll go straight to the point of this post. ACE needs YOUR support in order to provide it's supporters with enough clout to provide a credible and powerful lobby group! If support from groups or genres that do not now have a voice decide NOT to support us and ACE folds then we are back to only Classics and Hot Rods being represented in any discussions, or even just the classics alone. Come on, think about it. It's not like it's costing you anything and WHO else is offering to give you a voice to lobby with???
Back about 3 to 4 years ago the NSRA replied to a consultation document that DVLA had raised. They put forward a modified car class and some of the points contained were taken on board in the DVLA reply after lobbying pressure was applied .
This took the form that over a period of 6 months, DVLA were bombarded with contacts from magazines, enthusiasts, suppliers and manufacturers on a month on month orchestrated basis.
Whether or not this was the reason for most of the items that concerned car modifiers and the people that contacted them, being shelved is a matter for your take on the result. During further contact with the DVLA they stated that the items weren't shelved but simply on a back burner and if they so wished they would raise another consultation document for further input.
It had become obvious by way of researching the figures used in the NSRA 'Reply to the Consultation' document that each style / genre of car modifying did not have enough clout standing alone but together they had huge financial and voting power .
During the process of coordinating the month on month attacks on the DVLA it also became obvious something was needed to be able to swiftly contact the separate genres of modified cars and also to bring them together to form a lobbying organisation and so the idea of ACE was born. Realising that legislation issues affect more than simply the Hot Rod community one of the main players from the NSRA is helping with the initial direction and launch of ACE.
The guys promoting ACE are taking the first steps to making it viable ,we've got to start somewhere but once we've made all the contacts YOU will be in charge. This will benefit ALL of us that are concerned !! A larger committee will, we hope, be formed from the groups, associations, clubs and individuals that sign up to support us. ACE stand as a lobby group at arms length from other lobby groups but are happy to work alongside them.
Thank you for your time. Please put any questions through the contact page at the ACE site, http://www.the-ace.org.uk/contact-us.html
Regards,
Ade (ACE admin team)

RE: Introducing the ACE
I think it might be best to state your aims in more related terms mate, as when i first read your post i had no idea what you were on about!
So basically, your organisation is trying to become the voice for the modified car/performance car/car enthusiasts of the UK so that we are heard and not ignored by councils, the government and other people who get in the way of us enjoying our hobby?
"What we know for sure is that we are currently in a Nanny State where we must be protected from ourselves. Forget the huge modifying and classic car heritage this country has, or how that background, especially in motorsport, has improved the breed of OEM motor cars, forget the huge amount of people this would affect (over 2 million!), forget the huge amount of industry and jobs that would be in peril… what matters to many is that they see road safety and clean air is threatened by our pastimes.
THIS is why we need a united voice regardless of your chosen automotive hobby, be it restoring, modifying, racing or even simply spectating. "
I liked that bit, very powerful
