How Easy Is It To Transfer Number Plates?
I'm looking for a new car... purely because i need a diesel and my car lies awake at night wishing it was a dub so thought i'd better replace it with a nice fairly new golf... seen an sdi but ideally want a tdi...
just wondered how i go about transferring my maxxd plate on to the new car?
also, how much do people think i'll get for the focus... going to be px'ing it for a new car

i think to transfer plates its...?80 to put old plate back on focus, change MOT, tax and insurance too. then ?80 to put private plate on new car. so all together its ?160. and takes about 2 weeks for each if u do it through post.

When i traded my pug in for the astra it cost me ?80 to swap the plates over. But i think if you put the plate on retention (not straight onto new car) it'll cost ya around ?120 mark. Then it doesnt cost you to put it on your new car. Dvla site is pretty easy to figure it out though

not much im affraid, theres m? xxd plates on DVLA for 250 including all fees cos i looked at one for clio when i bought it....
if im right aswell, if you bought the plate from DVLA you cant actually sell it. you own the right to display the plate but the actual reg belongs to the dvla (my dads just bought one and thats what he was told)
best person to speak to is M5PRA (martin) on here, he's had his plate ages and its been on loads of different cars.....

if you already have your new car - go to dvla centre at strelley in nottz and it costs ?80 to swap straight over
if you are taking them off for a week or 2 then putting them on - go 2 nottz again but ask for plates 2 b put on retention ?105 and you will be sent a new v5 and mot certificate along with your retention certificate
alot easier if you already have the new car you wanna put plates on

Baring in mind it costs you ?115 to change the name of the nominee on the certificate you arent gonna get more than ?100 for the plate on top of that.
Seeing as people can get 1 direct from the DVLA for ?250 with a lot less hassle and much quicker than what you can sort yours out.
May as well keep the plate just get it on Retention
Maddsy - has far too many dealings with number plates
