Like Widdo says, the first thing to do is improve the breathing. The easier you're engine can inhale and exhale, the more power it will produce. A good quality air filter and exhaust are the obvious places to start. Quality counts though, and a dodgy "induction kit" off eBay will probably do more harm than good, you'd be just as well of with a pair of tights over the throttle body. A K&N 57i is a good place to start, just ensure that it has a decent supply of cold dense air and try and seal it off from the heat of the engine as well as possible. Same for the exhaust, just because something is loud it doesn't mean it's good. Unfortunately where exhausts are concerned you get what you pay for, but somewhere like Exhausts UK could do you a good system complete with free flowing cat for a decent price. Don't worry about the boost valve, it's just a gimmick designed to draw in those who don't understand them. It's just a rising rate fuel regulator that causes the engine to run rich and costs you more at the pump!

I agree, best place to start on any engine really is the breathing. Another free way to improve your cars performance is weight loss, lose things like the rear seats and spare wheel etc.. Not gonna make a huge difference but every little helps.

as said breathing!
I bought an induction kit and removed on of the CATs on the nissan and knocked 0.7 off my 1/4 mile time just with those! Induction kit and exhaust Also lowering the car will make it faster through the twisties alowing less body roll therfor more throttle can be used. 1. Top 100 Show Car 2. 13 sec 250+bhp RWD monster 3. Oversteer: when you hit the wall with the back of the car. Horsepower: how fast you hit the wall. Torque: how far you take the wall with you. ***Nissan 200SX S14a 203.2bhp 194.6lbft - 13.89@100.60***
