Fitting a Turbo Timer

I got Clare a Turbo Timer from MPL last year for her birthday (30/June). Just got round to fitting it over 10 months later. lol

Was quite easy to fit really. 3 main wires to the 3 positions on the ignition, one small earth and one wire to the handbreak switch.

The 3 main ones were a bit of a pain because I hate disturbing the Ford wiring. Over 20 year old Ford wiring and to top it off Big Cab is the 3rd car (at least) that this wiring loom has been in. The first idea to avoid disturbing the wires in the loom was to solder the 3 wires dirrectly to the back of the ignition but this proved more difficult than thought. The original solder holding the main wires were really really hard and the little solderer would not penatrate it. We had no choice but to cut the loom and join into the wires further down, all soldered 100% securly but I was just not happy cutting into the Ford wires.

One wire to earth and one to the handbrake. Another complication there, the light for the handbrake doesnt work so the timer didnt think the handbreak was on so it just cut out straight away. That was easily solved, I just put it straight to earth. Electronics are easily fooled. lol.

All went well and it was working fine while unit was on my lap but when I fixed it to the car and plugged all the wires back in it was acting up. I'd turn the car on and it would immediately start counting down. I'd turn the ignition off but would cut out straight away. Grrrrrr.

Checked all wires, they looked fine, checked the colours, they looked fine but they must be right because I marked them myself. Took me half hour to get pissed off enough to properly check to wires. I'd marked 2 wire the wrong way round. 1 wire out of 3 correct aint bad really though is it for my first time. lol Simply swapped them round and it worked.

Big Cab now has a turbo timer. YAY. Its cool as fuck to get out the car and it still be running then cut off on its own. hehe.

Dont worry. Nothing more this week before the mag release. lol.

Nothing major (that I'm guna say on here) planned for the foreseable future.

There is one thing that we are organising but thats not happening till after this season is over so it'll be ready for next year.
