FAO people who work for toyota

Trying to get a job at toyota in Derby. Been for the first interview, had a 3hour exam and passed that, i now have to go for a "day at work" tomorrow to see if i like the job, see how i do etc!

Wondering if anyone here works for them (sure Matty does) and what they think to the job and the company. They seem great and seem to get a lot of good benefits from them in return for you working your gut out. Also, as iv passed the exam etc depending on how I go on tomorrow, what would you recomend to help me get the job? Cheers Icon_biggrin

RE: FAO people who work for toyota

Used to work in Derby with a lot of guys that worked for them and know a few that still do - suppose it all depends on what you are actually going to be doing as well but all of the guys have said to me that it is one of those places where you either love it or hate it.

It is a bit of a different work environment and some people just dont get on with it - whereas others do. I guess this is one of the things you will see for yourself when you have your taster day!

its a 2shift pattern mate, 7.30am until 4pm for days and 8.30pm until 5am for the night shift and it rotates shifts every 2 weeks. Not bad really for the pay. Excellent benefits to such as good pension, private health care, lots of holidays and bags of over time available

RE: FAO people who work for toyota

a mate of mine used to work at derby and it kicked the shit out of him. He was on production line earning £40000+ but he found himself working, driving to and from work and sleeping with no play time.

All youve got to remember is the word LEAN. eg lean manufacturing, lean production, lean ordering lean staff.

TOYOTA = LEAN

I did some management courses with Toyota and they are brutal!!

RE: FAO people who work for toyota

Iv heard a few similar stories, they let you know on your dinner break if your section isnt meeting production targets and they tell you how much overtime you HAVE to do that night. Thats puts me off a little, but with no qualifiactions this job seems to good of an oppertunity to let go. If i get the job ill have to try it out and see how things go, but if i get it id be taking a 110% pay rise, working 2 hours less a week and traveling just as far, so the possitive sides to the job are more than outnumbering the negatives atm tbh

RE: FAO people who work for toyota

2hours is the maximum, they say it very rarely happens, but we would have to see. Thats the only real downside to the job if im being honest
