just wondering realy, are there any qualified mechanics/technicians on here?

this week i have passed my last year doing NVQ level 3 motor vehicle technician

i am now looking to either go to derby university to study motorsport technology's or get myself a job and apply for my MOT testing papers.

anyone else in the trade?

I'm a qualified Mercedes-Benz technician. I've got a national diploma in automotive and electrical engineering and my NVQ3 too. I went straight in to the apprenticeship scheme from school and attended the Daimler Chrysler training centre at Milton Keynes regularly for 4 years, and had a placement at Mercedes-Benz of Mansfield.

I stayed there for 7 years before deciding that I actually couldn't care less about someone's creaks, rattles, electrical problems and service history anymore and wanted to get away from the 'shop floor.

It's nothing like the same job. I don't have to actually get involved in all the ballaches of checking wiring, listening for noises and mundane bullshit jobs like discs and pads. I just get to shout at people when it's not done now! Oh, and twice the salary comes in handy too.

I do have to get involved with technical stuff, but with modern motors that doesn't really involve being hands on anymore, it's more liaising with Dubai and updating software! Any crap stuff like checking wiring and that, I just tell someone else to do it and bring me the results, safe in the knowledge that if I need to do it myself, I can.

im applying for a foundation degree in motorsport as we speak, which will include gaining the skills for, engine and gearbox building, chassis construction, ECU mapping, diagnostics, race preparation, vehicle track testing etc.

My Dad is fully qualified etc, give him a shout if you would like an apprentiship. Hes already had a few people ask him. I think its 1 or 2 days a week and then the rest uni or something.

Why would they want to start another apprenticeship on wank wages when they've just finished one?

I was interested in going to Derby Uni for the motorsport degree but apparently it gets filled up very quickly and I was told it only has around 15 places for folk, so you better be quick.

I'm fully qualified "master parts technician", basically means I can answer a phone, use a computer talk and spell unlike most mechanics, aswell as let bullshit flow off the tongue. msl:

the guy we have spoken to said that there arent many people on the course each year, im realy excited about doing it, and i'll be glad that im not going to end up a spanner monkey because any muppet can change a set of brake disks and pads!

will have to grab jody for a talk next time i see him!

i only realy want to do the course to learn how to use autoCAD and ecu mapping. although my strong points and what i enjoy is chassis/suspension/transmission systems.
