chequer plate help.
after removing my door plastics and being having a word with my racing advisor(u know who u r lol) he suggested some sort of thin chequer plating to go over the door and after some though i think it will look good, and quite possibly my rear quarter panels if the fronts r a success.
any suggestions and help please.
the mess behind my door:

1. Top 100 Show Car 2. 13 sec 250+bhp RWD monster 3. Daily runabout well detailed - but i know fuck all about this scene........
Understeer: when you hit the wall with the front of the car.
Oversteer: when you hit the wall with the back of the car.
Horsepower: how fast you hit the wall.
Torque: how far you take the wall with you.

RE: chequer plate help.
I've done my rear cards in chequerplate. Got the plate from ebay loadscheaper than places like B&Q
Looking at your photo you could either go right to the very edges of the door (probably easiest from a template and cutting POV) or go to the same shape as your cut out in the door.
I cut and shaped mine using a jigsaw and a grinder (cutting disc & grinding disc), Also a rubber mallet came in handy for persuading panels to fit ot the shape of the panel
I would recommend you get lots of cardboard in for templates. It does take a while.

RE: chequer plate help.
what purpose is the plate going to serve? is it for strength or vanity?
the door just looks a mess as the previous owner smoothed the bump strip off the front of the door and the body shop he used went over the top with the filler, so ruined the door.

i was actually thinking of doing to whole door and just marking where the door handle would go and just add a strap to pull the door closed.

RE: chequer plate help.
i fitted a landrover out with Polyurethane backed Checker Plate like a lino flooring and it looked really good at a fraction of the cost of ally. Cover the bulk of the hole with a sheet of fibreglass and stick it onto the set fibreglass or a sheet of plastic

RE: chequer plate help.
Same stuff we've got on the trailer floor D. As a workshop floor it looks quite cool, but dubious as fook on car doors I reckon!
If cost is an issue, what about plain ali with either chequer plate or carbon vinyl?
*insert witty remark here*
