I don't think £2500 is bad, but if I sold the ka, i'd be paying the price of a car for insurance... is it really worth it?? A question I keep asking myself...

Would depend on what your insurance is on say a 106gti or equivalent car to one.

Dont underestimate the fun of an economical hot hatch,2ltr turbo 4wd`s are all good but after a while like anything else you just get used to em an they become like any other car to an extent-yer theyre fun an that but only you know wether it`d be worth that kinda money to you.

Dont be misled into thinking youre average pulsar`s gonna be the fastest thing ever -it wont,in fact a good clio 182 will give ya a run for ya money in places not suggesting ya buy one or a civic type r but unless youre over 300bhp with the pulsar dont think you`d be that impressed-brakes are crap so will need uprating so theres another £1500-2k(if not already done)-servicing on turbo cars dont come cheap either at around £50quid for oil an filter every 4000mile(thats cost of parts not to have done-Though sure someone ya know would do it ya).
clutch wont last ya long so would think 3-£400 for one thats gonna take the power(if cars uprated)Tyres around £70-80 each depending on wheel size make-though ya hardly gonna put crap ones on,on top of this about 20mpg thats before anything breaks.

Its alot of comittment owning a car this expensive to run trust me,and theres always someone faster, personally i`d go for a hot hatch-had a 106gti before the scooby an probably goes down as the best car ive owned if im honest.

RE: Cheap Car Insurance???

Try the quote based on you being 18. Also, when did you pass your test? Being 18 and a full licence for a year will make a big difference......Its worth a try.

Dont winge too much, you've already got a big advantage over most Maxxd members. If you'd got a big set of meat and two veg instead of a split-arse, you'd be paying a lot lot more.

RE: Cheap Car Insurance???

Just to give ya an idea jess on cost if ya take stuff anywhere had gearbox sorted in the scooby started off as a syncro problem between 4th an 5th gear(hardly a change that gets abuse)where it were awkward to cross between 4th an 5th just wouldnt engage right though would go in-in the end lost 5th gear-car had done just 33,000 mile full subaru service history etc etc were getting ready for a clutch so thought whilst box is out may aswell save on labour so an exedy organic went bk in with lightened flywheel -cost were £1500.now i werent expecting bills like that at 33,000mile trust me though would have cost more if each thing were done seperately.

As a rough guide on a scooby these are just labour charges remember

Gearbox Builds
ZEN Performance can build/strip and re-build Subaru gearboxes to standard or custom specification, using the highest quality parts that your budget will cater for. We have experience in building standard gearboxes, as well as uprated boxes up to competition standard, and a long list of satisfied customers. All gearboxes run in ZEN demo cars are homegrown and a constant source of research and development.

Labour is priced at an hourly rate of £45 +vat

A build can take anything from 8 to 20 hours.

ZEN Performance can build/strip and re-build Subaru engines to standard or custom specification, using the highest quality parts that your budget will cater for. We have experience in building everything from a standard 2L engine, through to stroked 2.35L engines and 2.5L conversions, up to full race specification 700hp motors, and a long list of satisfied customers. All engines run in ZEN demo cars are homegrown and a constant source of research and development.

Now scoobys are probably a bit more expensive than pulsars but dont think theres much difference.

To be fair as tuners/specialists go zen are one of the cheaper places-personally wouldnt entertain scoobyclinic meself(though are probably cheaper still)

RE: Cheap Car Insurance???

Well, alot of information to take in there!!

And guess what, it doesn't even matter now as the Pulsar is sold! (and no not to me Icon_sad)

But, for a 106 GTI it is an extra £120 on my insurance Icon_lol but I just can't go down that route. Already considered it and we don't need another one on here.

Looking for a 2.0 Zetec so will still need to check insurance on that as I don't think they'll take too kindly on me swapping the engine.

I'll be 18 at this point anyway and I passed my test on September 11th Al.

It looks like i'll just have to wait until i'm 21 for my dream car... :'(

RE: Cheap Car Insurance???

all ill say is dont jump the gun with a high powered vehicle as your driving skills are no way ready for a fast car, and be to fair ive seen how you drive and unless you want your parents to be arranging your funeral instead of your 18th dont go silly on your next car.

thats my advise from experiance and it aint nice.

RE: Cheap Car Insurance???

I may drive a bit mad at times but I have never once crashed unlike a lot of the clowns on here.

Just cos I know how to handle my own car does not mean I am going to die whilst driving it.

I wouldn't drive the same in someone elses car, and I don't, 'cos I aint used to it and don't know what it can do.

Think i'm gunna have a look around, I don't want a car that everyone has. I want something different, like a Pulsar, obviously not one of them though. But just generally a rare car, that I like. And TBH i'm quite picky, could be difficult....

RE: Cheap Car Insurance???

The only reason Pulsar GTI-Rs are rare is because they cost a fotune to run and a pig to live with unfortunately.

There aren't many decent (Jap, if that's your bag), affordable cars around tbh, not in a similar price and performance range to the Nissan anyway. S13's and 14's are relatively well-priced although every man and his dog wants one recently. It's the reason I got the Celica to be honest, but I really wouldn't recommend buying one unless you had some spare cash to throw at it lol!

RE: Cheap Car Insurance???

theres 1 in clowne and that might be for sale.

and jess iirc you have not been driving a year yet, so your driving experiance is very very little.

not trying to cause a argument but your hopes of new cars is a little more than u should be looking at.

RE: Cheap Car Insurance???

They're nice but i'll only probably have 3k if the ka goes.

Been driving a year in 4 weeks Icon_cheesygrin not been passed a year like though.

I know what you're saying but there's people on here that have had 1.1's and rote them off weeks and sometimes days after passing their tests.
