I've been using Super unleaded in the escort now for ages. years back it dropped from 98 RON to 97.

Just recently I've heard that Tesco is selling 99 RON & I think it was BP are starting to introduce a 102 RON to some of their forecourts.

What's all of u performance orientated boys using these days?
which makes a difference?
is the Tesco fuel like piss water really?
anyone tried the BP 102?

discuss.
i always use BP 97 never seen 102, i wouldnt no a difference. i no the tesco at ollerton has 99RON. but i would have thought all tescos would have the same fuel.
Im Now running on Tesco 99 ron - although the standard uk 200 is mapped for 95.

With the mods starting to flow and boost steadlilly increasing then it is wise according to SXOC to run the higher octane fuel to stop detenation.

It also helps that i dont use the car every day so the cost of 99 ron doesnt affect me too much

For the ammount you use your car Newth id stick some 99 ron in for a few tanks see what you think
otherwise id wouldnt go lower than the 97

102 has been brought in as most Jap import cars have to run on 100+ ron so people were having to add octane boosters as Jap fuel is 100 ron and the import cars are mapped to use it.
I was told the Tesco 99 thing was all a gimmick, it has been tested and had been found to be as low as 93RON in some instances.

Your best of using Shell V Power, I personally dont use it as its too far for me to drive to Ollerton for petrol, I use Esso Super and it runs better on that than on normal fuel, seems to have a little flat spot running on 95ron Icon_sad
i used tesco super in my old 16v gte as total vauxhall reccomended it and its was good fuel now use it in corsa all the time an its seems better perf wise an mileage wise more to the gallon etc, did run on v power 4 a while but seemed to use it fairly quickly so swapped back to tesco.Icon_biggrin
I used to go with either V Power (or Optimax as was) or BP Ultimate. I never bothered with the Tesco stuff 'cause I too heard it's a bit of a crock.

Instead of it being an individual blend with special additives like the Shell and BP stuff, it's just regular 95RON mixed with ethanol to bump up the numbers. If it is a good batch then it's supposed to be ok, but I've read reports of it being a bit piss poor too, sometimes no better than Premium.

The 102 stuff is a trackday fuel, and fookin' expensive. As far as I know, the only stockists are those in and around circuits. BP developed it to allow people to give their motors a bit more grief on the track without the worry of melting plugs or pistons.
i use the green one Icon_lol

seriously tho, i dont have a performance car, so i dont bother using anything but the standard fuel..

surely they cant say its (for example) 99 ron, and it only be 93? isnt that false advertising?
You would think that.

If independant tests had been done and found that they would have pulled it from the forcourt and been fined?
There was actually a press fuss about it at the time, and the 99 stuff did disappear for a short while.

I'm not sure what the score is now, but I know it's still refined the same as before.

that's my current thinking, but with the other fuels now starting to appear, thought i'd see what others people had to say.

Tescos 99 octane cant be too bad, Its been the offical fuel of the British Rally Championship for 2 years now
I use 97 most of the time just for the eco properties

I seem to get about 50 miles more than standard 95

Performance dont matter to me with being a 1.4 lol
I run Super Unleaded in my poxy 1.4. Only 96.9 from Sainsbury's in Mansfield Icon_smile

True, but I doubt the stuff they use is pump fresh, it's probably refined specially for the championship like BP's 102 gear.
