Finally back on road all taxed tested and everything.

The car is basically sound. A good base to start with. So just needs a bit of effort and money and it'll be a nice car. Took those god awfull twins off and replaced with good old standard lights.

The car has some gucci bit already such as:

1. RS Turbo Bonnet
2. RS Turbo Wheels
3. RS Turbo Recaros
4. RS lower skirts and bompers
5. RS boot spoiler
6. KnN panel filter
7. Electric roof / windows wtc

But the maintenence and general condition is needing work, so, things on the "to do list" are:

(as cheap as poss)

01. Scrap yard tomorrow morning to buy:

Battery (fucked of with pushing it)
Nut and bolt to secure alternator (peice of wood working so far but for how long)
Bulb and holder for front indicators (Stole them of BigCab for now)
Plastic bush on steering rack (to stop steering wheel up/down movement)

02. 3 x puncture repairs ##sorted##
03. Fit lowered springs back
04. Fit clamps to lower front
05. fit 4 branch manifould, thats right, lol, we have a 4 branch for it.
06. Paint bonnet and boot until we can do full paint job
07. clean, touch up and buff the whole car
08. Clean the inside
09. secure boot spoiler

Then when thats all done and if we have any money we would then like to do:

1. New roof (BicCab would get one to be fair and Crap Cab would have the old one.
1.(b) If no new roof then it might be made back to a pickup, but we'll see.
2. Full Paint same colour or something slightly different, nothing mad
3. 17" alloys, I want white but Clare's not convinced
4. New engine, if we can get a donor cheap enough, an RS Turbo, if not just another XR3i.
5.
y do u call it crap cab?? luks pretty clean n tidy 2 me lol Icon_smile

It looks good on photos. lol.

Right,

new battery on and it starts everytime

bolts fitted to alternator so it carries on starting

bush fitted to steering wheel

new exhaust back box fitted

So it should start from now on. fingers crossed

very tidy!!!
its alright to say what the sticker on the back interprits lol
Now its the main form of transport, I needed to sort the tyres out. I was having to pump 3 out of 4 tyres up EVERY morning and I was getting fucked off.

So it was either new tyres or new alloys. F'in skint but I/we had not much choice so thanks to Mush, these were a bargin and make the car look a 100% better. Might even take "crap Cab" off boot lid now. lol.

wheels are lush Icon_biggrin how long it take you pair to get home last nite lol
lol. It wasn't too bad. I have found out some stronger springs to try to help with the bounce but these are lower so they need the clamps fitting to bring it back upto hight before they're fitted.

crap cab as never looked so good, and for some reason those wheels seem to suit the car to the ground.

pick up FTW
Its looking good
Right, been busy boy this morning and took some photos while at work just incase I got 5 mins to do a write up. Well, I've got 5 minutes. lol.

Aquired another cam, yeah yeah yeah, its only got 1. Some more hydraulic lifters, and a water pump. All courtesy of Tomo.

First just took rocker cover off and set the engine at TDC, put in gear so nothing moves at the bottom

Next, tensioner, belt and pully off to give access to enable to swap water pump

Then on to swapping cam, this comes out the dizzy end so needed to remove this and also some of the pipwork off the airbox

The cam is locked in place with a key which is held in plac with two 8mm bolt behind the top pulley. Removed these

to release the key

The only thing holding the cam in place now is the row of 8 lifters. Romoved the rockers and the lifters to free the cam

Think I found the noisey lifter thats been pissing us off. lol

Slid old cam out, and replaced with new one

Built all back up, checking bottom end and top still all lined up at TDC. I like to set the tightness of the belt so that you can twist it just half a turn. I also always turn over the engine a few time with a spanner, then check the timing and belt tightness again. Takes just a minute to check things twice.

Refilled with water and checked oil, and it started first time with just a little noise which went almost straight away. Left it a minute to let it get to temprature mainly to see if the revs were right. Then when engine stopped, checked belt tightness again.

Time on first photo 9.30am, time on last 11.22am. Just under 2 hours which is not too bad.

Next job to do was change the rear springs to harden the back end hopfully stopping bounce and hopfully stopping the rubbing on the new wheels.

Set the clamps to the highest setting possible because not sure what the drop was on the new springs. Its easier to lower the clamps than higher them when they're fitted to the car.

Piece of piss to swap rear springs on an Escort. Wheel off, 2 x 19mm nut and bolts and all the hub and arm drops. Swapped the springs and replaced the bolts. Wheel on and dropped car.

Rolled it forward and back to find the height was a little bit high. Jacked it back up and adjusted the clamps about 10mm to make it look the same but 10x stiffer. Can do this from behind with wheels still on.

The soft, jelly, original XR3i springs

Shinney shinney, rock solid, new springs
Nice work Al.

Its good to see it's getting a little love and you aren't pumping up flats/bump starting it anymore LOL

The cam writeup is great. Its a while since I touched a CVH but I used to enjoy any head work because it was so simple.

Wheels are an improvement.

I'm going to keep an eye on this one.
Crapickup FTW! Icon_biggrin
I would love to. But I really can't be arsed. lol.
