Whats people oppinions on these? Iv been looking for a quickish car, that looks nice and is easy to modify with lots of options. Wondering if anyone has experience of these cars? Cant afford anything thats going to be stupid on insurance or cost a bomb to run with the cost of petrol atm, so this seems a sensible idea! Cheers Icon_biggrin
I've heard there not brilliant on performance vts and gti are suppose to be alot better
Yeh they are only 105 bhp standard, so not overly quick but a big step up from my old 1litre corsa. These to are only insurance group 8 or 9, were as vts, gti's are a lot higher and as im only 18 and been driving for a year, cant really afford to insure these sort of cars. In the future if i decide to have one I would like to put in a ford racing puma engine, as they are one of the most common and simple conversions to do, and they have some nice gadgets such as traction control, abs etc as standard.
even vtr's are faster than these zetec s...

vts and gti's just shit all over them tbh... no performance at all if thats what your looking for.. may aswell get a vtr which will be cheaper and cam etc... so easy to play with... personally wouldnt pay for a mark 5 zetec s if i was after performance tbh...

plus saxos would be so much more fun...

slightly biased mate but i was looking at the mark 5 zetec s and so glad i didnt get it....
i think my mums was mk5 fiesta and it handled amaing really to sayt it was standard dont know about performance
I'd say a VTR over the zetec any day.

VTR's being 8v single cam can be throttle-bodied with R1 bike bodies for approx £500, So even if you bought the std saxo VTR you have a good upgrade path both cosmetically and performance wise.
Here's my old one...

Eveyone says the VTR is quicker, i never got beaten by one, and my car was completly standard, there supposed to be 100bhp standard, i took mine on the rollers and it produced 110bhp.

My opinion is obviously going to be biased but i'd deffinetly go for the Zetec S, it's not as common, stronger build quality, more reliability, they sit a lot lower at standard ride height compared to the vtr yet are more comfortable.

To me the VTR felt a bit cheap!

My insurance at the age of 19 with 0 NCB under my dads name was £750 ish.
Aww, its not the same without that beast pimpin round the streets of mansfield Icon_smile

I say get the fiesta too...

olly ur mums was a mk6 i think,

there nice looking cars i think, not very fast tho. u say u will get a racing puma engine, they are bout £2500 from pumaspeed. and to say they only made 500 racing pumas u aint gunna get one from a scrappers lol. u may mean the standard 1.7 puma engine conversion, these still dont make it as quik as the gti/vts though.

also... fiesta ZS - 1.6 16v 105bhp and puma 1.7 16v 130bhp
there aint a lot of difference in the two engines.
go for the fiesta everybody has got a vtr and they all bin thrashed plus ford build quality is alot better than a citroen there not the fastest of cars but good fun to drive
Thanks for all the feedback guys. I agree, VTR's are generally quicker, but they tend to have problems and usualy had the nackers thrashed off of them. Wouldnt really want a saxo tbh either, seen to much as a "chavvy car". Id love a GTI, but the insurance is silly prices. Uv got a point with the racing puma engines widdo, but hopefuly id be able to find one, if i cant pumabuild will, and id be happy to pay for them to fit it me to as i know they do a cracking job. Im not after a stupidly quick car, as i cant really afford to loose my licence or wrap it round a post. Only been driving a year so not much experience either lol. I just love the look of the fiestas with a few subtle mods. Any other suggestions of similar cars other than saxos? I think tbh, for the price of a mk5 zetec s with less than 50k miles, i cant get much more for the money i want to pay. Any suggestions welcome though as i may have over looked some other good cars. I need reliability, decent price and something that i will be able to make look the nuts! Think they look pretty smart standard tbh, mandeeps looked ace! Cheers
