Not going to post endless pics of cars here - there were too many to remember/photograph or even discuss and it is so subjective I couldn't do them justice anyway. Better to cover what we did as a club and let you see why we love it so much.
Despite the horrid weather predicted for the weekend I took the family down to Malvern for a weekender with Dubliminal VW Club, having prebooked over a month before. This had to coincide with a family visit in the area so we did have an escape plan if the weather got too rough.
Friday afternoon/evening
Having driven down with a melted vacuum pipe and high revving when stood the truck surprised me by not using a lot of fuel (I hadn't had time to fit the new backbox and the old one was literally hanging off) and the journey took about 2hrs.
We then pitched the tent and settled down in the club event shelter for the night, drinking copious amounts of beer, vodka and coke and cider as well as eating burgers and sausages. A game of 'gaybo football in the shelter and all the madness included finished off a rowdy night and everyone was in their beds by 2.30am.
Saturday
Next morning I was up early, hair of the dog at 9.30am as I didn't want a hangover - I needed to get round the trade stands and grab some bargains for the Golf, camper and maybe even the truck. Kate too was excited by the prospect of getting the Golf ready so she came along and lugged bits around when she could. The weather was changeable with showers interspersing a heatwave of 2 hours - catching everyone by surprise. I waas enjoying it as I had decided to wear my retro Ocean Pacific shorts and vest top, regardless.
The afternoon was spent dozing/drinking/eating, with ppl still milling round the thousands of VWs and traders out in force. The robot show for the kids captivated everyone.
Around 7.30pm ppl began to appear from the clubs tents/campers/caravans in fancy dress. This was planned to a degree but the diversity/randomness of the costumes was downright hilarious. The pics below don't cover half the fun we had walking around the event, dancing in the entertainment hall, posing for photos/video etc and we crowned it all off with a blowout session on the dodgems - £150 for 15 minutes of pure mayhem, one-way forgotten and bumping truly allowed.
I retired to my tent sunburned, exhausted and totally plastered. Another great Dubliminal event.
For anyone considering joining a local club I must mention that our camping tickets were discounted in price and due to the unique way the club is funded the food, alcohol and dodgems were all provided free of charge to members and their families. We truly are a fun lot to be with and welcome newcomers.
Pitching up (note Hayden - like most of us already drinking!):
