Had a couple of days addressing the MOT requirements.

Monday was spent on the brakes and scratching my head over the electrics issues. The front brakes needed nothing more than free-ing off and re-greasing. The rears needed new cylinders and the handbrake adjusting. While it was on the ramp we fitted some -40 springs and replaced the rear shocks (had to cut them off to swap the rear springs!). The car now goes faster and doesn't get so hot (well with the brakes stuck on it was going to wasn't it!)

The indicator/hazard fault was down to a duff switch and the foglight/horn issues were finally tracked down to a blown fuse which doesn't show in the Haynes manual and is hidden out of sight on top of the fusebox.

Ditched the golf ball gear knob because like a lot of aftermarket kit, it just keeps coming off. Fitted a new aerial and removed the stereo so I can redo the wiring and get some proper tuneage installed

A half hour re-inspection and we now have 12 months freedom. Icon_cheesygrin

I still have some work to do though:

More polishing
Swap wheels (14"x6J GTi steels in silver with black centres for the moment)
Replace dash bulbs
Fit lower dash trim
Buy/fit steering wheel
Buy new bolts for roofrack and fit
Fit Dr.Pepper stickers to sides (rear done)
Give bonnet 2nd coat of satin black

If you see it buzzing round give us a wave
P.S. - Not happy with the ride height so its gotta go lower !
Fitted the steelies and it looks like I can handle another 1.5-2" drop. Going to spray the centres black after all as the wheels distract your eyes.

The other major progress is the pain in the arse job of fitting the Dr.Pepper stickers. 4.5hrs and lots of cursing/sweating (it was damn hot today) and they are on - and looking pretty cool if I say so myself. Icon_cool

Did the classic insulating tape on the headlights for some retro style racecar action.

Decided I want a woodrim steering wheel, chrome door furniture from a Beetle and a nodding dog.

The roof won't polish properly so I am toying with chequers (white/black or red/black), satin black like the bonnet, white/satin black race stripes or wait for it.........a vinyl roof.Icon_cheesygrin

Whitewalls might make a showing yet too.
Dude, that is sweet! Black/silver wheels will look awesome. Not sure what to say about the roof, not that I don't like either, more I can't decide between white/black or red/black...
Looking nice mate, only just had a look through this thread..

Bet this will be worth a few quid by now.
Think u should go for the satin black racing stripe look u were teling me about.... or maybe a vinyl wood look on the roof
I considered the vinyl roof but there was no obvious trimming point on the rear quarter and being a 5dr it would have been a 'mare.

The stripe was tried many ways in Photoshop but in the end we decided it would have probably worked better if the bonnet were red.

In the end I went for the chequers. Offscreen did the honours again at short notice and here was the result - as displayed at Run To The Hills, last weekend.

Sweet. Looking good mate.

Did it get alot of attention at the show?
IMO don't like the bonnet, love the roof though.
To be honest m8, I really don't know as I was working all 3 days. When I was near it people were commenting and mooching around it though :-)
bullet chrome mirrors now
Already on order lol
Looks awesome, nice work.
SWEET!

Nice work mate! Icon_smile
Still working out some minor issues.

Got to swap the wiper blades now its always raining and change the oil now its run-in again.

Finish the roofrack, mount it, get some rims, slam it.

Missus is using it daily and it's nice to see it.
