ive sold 30 this week. A repair company are buying them to do their stock control for their van and as they have gsm in them they can update to a main station how much stock each car has at any time making it easy to order new stock.

a laptop i agree can be cheaper but when you add up everything to make a laptop do what the carputer does like a seperate headunit bluetooth kit gsm transceiver wireless card it soon mounts up but the difference is its all in your dash and not clumbersome like a laptop.
These units will also come ready to plug into the OBD socket so you can do the technical stuff including altering engine maps so when your racing round you use a specific map and when your wanting better economy you load that map(Not looking forward to the aftermath of joe bloggs doing this!!). This is the big thing that the manufacturer is working on at the moment with fuel economy calculations etc. As always they have been in use in Japan for over a year now and they are becoming more popular in cars than a laptop.
these units have dual video output and controlable surround sound so you can be using the satnav etc in the front while the screens in the back are playing a dvd for the kids. A laptop with all that wiring isnt gonna look nice sat on the passenger seat

These carputers also have an upgradeable option of a solid state hdd so it takes 5 seconds for windows to boot from cold.
Yes Oll everything you need is there using touch screen and a wireless keyboard that fits in the glove box and a microphone so it gets full use of voice control. The options are endless.

Dude, there's no way that unit does the same job as the Alpine F#1 status you're comparing it to there.
It does look an amazing piece of kit though!

most of the pcb is in jell coat aswell so where people that have been using micro atx boards and getting dry joints this wil stop all that

You can plug studio equipment into the carputer so does that make it better than alpine??? ![]()
