It'd have to be a minter at that price! Icon_lol

£500-800 in poor to average condition, depending on roof colour, engine size and trim spec. Up to £1500 for a later Clipper in good-mint condition.

Anything sub 1500cc fetches peanuts as do cars with beige/red/white roofs. Thin bumper models also fetch less than the big bumpered 'Clipper' type. Early paint colours are not as desirable as the later pearl/metallics.

Look for bonuses like Electric roof, Electric windows, Roof cover, bodykit and alloys as these are always desirable. Worn/torn seats can be difficult to replace.

If you are looking locally let me know as there are plenty of bad points on them(rust and poor repairs) which are easy to spot. I'dbe happy to come and take a look. Alternatively I might be interested myself, assuming you aren't.

PM me.
its not for me but i may be going with a friend tommorow as for some weird reason he wants 1.
its a karman model with a 1800cc lump with 136000(so its just bedding in)
here it is

that looks tidy... in newquay they fetch silly money so wont say how much it would be worth down there lol xxx

my old mk2 sold for £1200 and needed body work and mot'ing
#There is no such thing as a Karmann model. All Mk1 cabs were built by Karmann - there is no exclusive Karmann model.
#Nice interior
#GTI - cool and more reliable than the carb models (plus easier to tune)

Check the sills, behind the plastic wheelarches (they rot like hell there), front and rear panels near the bumpers and round the lights, Fuel filler area (if its rotten around the fuel cap its likley rotten round the fillere neck - a pain in the arse to fix.

#Should be stickers on the crossmember inside the boot (check the bootlid for rot while you are there) so check for originality. Also check inside the boot for original paint insed the rear wings - if its been damaged there you will see the black primer inside.

Avoid rumbly gearboxes or slack/high clutches, check dash lighting works and gauges too as the multiplug is a fault on these.

Does the heater blower work and blow warm air? They're a bitch to replace the matrix.

I wouldn't give more than £800 for it in good condition as its a thin bumper with gay wheels. On the plus side its an 1800GTI and its pretty tidy.

Hope this helps.
Yeah, what he said! Icon_lol
