Well, we are officially not going to the fast show, and not eating for a month

Gems polo has had gearbox problems for a while, but we have spent all our time trying to find one in a bone yard to swap it with..

NO LUCK!

Loads of people have said they could find us a gearbox.. One guy said he could get us one for £100! And would drop it off at our house!

He turned out to be full of shit..

Went to one garage, and he said he could recon the gearbox for about £350 but seemed to be suggesting he would take a week or so to do it..

And gem has to travel 30 miles a day to work..

So after dropping her off this morning at work, i called in at AUDI DAVE

A audi/vw specialist in creswell or clowne or summat- he told me that they boxes are hard to find, and a BROKEN would still fetch £300 as the parts/casing is reused.... He recommended CAR in creswell - they are transmission specialists..

Went there, he has quoted me £495 + VAT to recon the box if we take it him.. But if i drop it off there he will have it done by lunch time..

Need a new clutch too, and need to rent a car for the monday so i can take gem to work and drop and pick the box up..

Gotta fit it all myself with the help of anyone who wants to come and help..

All in all its costing £695!



If your looking to buy a MK5 polo.. make sure the gearbox feels ONE HUNDRED PERCENT perfect.. if it feels a bit dodgy, then STAY AWAY!

That'll be Clive at C.A.R.

He knows his gearboxes and though he isn't cheap he does do a thorough and proper job. I've trusted him many times before for rally gearboxes.

If you need a hand m8 let me know. Happy to lend one if I am available.

Might be able to offer a lift/collect the box too.

no mate mines the mk4. ash's is the mk2!

me and all my motorsport lot are guna rebuild it i think!

oh yeah olly, id be happy to pop round with clutch alignment tools if you want! get that bit wrong and the box will never go on! (trust me, i know)
