Stereo arrived yesterday and looks cool. It is single DIN but IS a bigger face which is a little big and chuncky to allow for the TV, but i'll get used to it.
First thing I did after conecting the ISO connector was to work out how the bluetooth conection worked and it was peice of piss and work perfect. Now its set up, as soon as I get in the car the phone conects to the stereo and any calls goes through speakers, mint.
Then I fetched a couple of DVD's to try but no matter what I did I couldnt get the picture to come up. grrrrr. Sound came through but no picture and a brief message basically telling me to stop the car to watch video but could not work out what to do. I was a little pissed off so sent the guy a email for advice, I knew it was something I'd done (or not done). Looked at the manual again to see if I had missed something and noticed one of the "extra" wires that come out the back. When I fitted it I worked out what they all did, like the TV ariel, reversing camera etc, appart from one that said "braking wire". The unit seemed to work okay without it so I assumed it was to do with the reversing camera or something and just ignored it. But it turned out that that wire should have gone to the "hand brake" (stupid chinese translations) This made it so the TV only works when the handbrake is up. A little moddification and that little safety feature was overcome. lol.
Its awesome for the money. I keep thinking of people to ring. lol.

Swapped the badge this morning from the smaller metal sticker type badge to the more authentic Chrome seperate letters. Here's a quick rundown seing as its a project thread.....
This is how it was

First thing was to get the old badge off without damaging the paint so got stanley blade and gently worked all the way round being careful not to touch the boot lid.

Then I was left with the sticky glue which needed to be removed. Darryl showed me a trick with a credit card. Hold the c/card directly square onto the panel and rubbing straight up and down while slowly moving from left to right will magically remove 99% of the glue. No matter how hard you rub it doesnt mark the paint for some reason. Quality tip.

The credit card wont get rid of it all so I needed some cutting polish or G3 and a little elbow grease to remove the last little bit.

A quick buff and its now the shiniest part of the car. lol.

All I needed to do then was to the line the badge up with the E320 on the other side and bobs you're uncle, nice new badge expertly fitted. It looks 110% better.

Review on new headunit after 2 weeks.

General radio etc
The general features of this unit is bang on. The radio signal seems good and has all the feature of any good radio RDS etc. The touch screan is perfect so far, and packet with easy to use features and menus. There is a remote but so far its had no need to come out of the packet. The sound quality (for me) is awesome and it uses the standard Merc sound system to its full potential. The old stereo was far from doing this and that was a Sony unit. Very happy.
10/10

Bluetooth feature
The purchase of this particular headunit was swayed because of the Bluetooth feature to allow handsfree telephone calls. A few people have asked how its performing and overall it is "acceptable, not great, just acceptable. So far after using it for a couple of week I can hear EVERYONE perfect on all calls but a few have commented that they can't hear me 100% due to a bit of interfearence and some cant understand me at all. I've worked out that the times that people cant hear my very well is when my phone is low on signal which is understandable. The rest of the time as long as I talk loud and clear is fine. So the feature all be it not perfect, it is acceptalbe.
7/10

DVD feature
Since I had the van and not had a DVD player, I have missed having music vidoes playing rather than boring CD's. And this Unit does not disapoint, the 4.2" screen is adequate for my needs and 100% quality. It has 2 output if I decide in the future to expand and have more monitor in the back, etc. Overall totally satified.
10/10

TV
It does have TV but as of yet I have no TV ariel so cant comment as yet
_______________________________________________________________
In conclusion I would recomend anyone to buy one of these if you want a cheap headunit that has loads of gucci features.

Did a bit more last night. Gone all dark and mean. Got rid of the chrome.
before

First thing was to remove the grill.

Got the grill in the garage and all the strips slid out so no masking the grill. They're all metal so a quick rub done for the paint to key to and we're ready.

Bit of black paint later and its looking good (or so I thought)

I had a little set back, the black paint I used for a base coat before I put the colour on reacted like a bitch. It looked an absolute fuck up. Luckily it reacted to such a degree that it just fell of with a bit of rubbing. Started again with some different base coat and it worked fine this time. Left it till today and refitted. Just need a bit of rubbing with the G3 and it'll be bang on. or it willbe when the rest of the car is cleaned.

not sure if it now need to do the bits on the bumper or not.

Looks spot on, as for the bumper chrome, do them the same. Can you seperate the headlamps and fogs and smoke the inside of them?
27-01-2008, 06:40 PM
that grill looks loads better than black that chrome i think the bumper strips need doing aswell
27-01-2008, 06:48 PM
Looks really good! i did like the snakeskin affect however!
Agreed that the bumper needs doing now!
