Just sat down after a day of messing with the Golf. No rain and a bit of daylight can work magic.

#1 Interior
Last night I nipped down to Leicester to collect an early GTi interior advertised for free on VZi. Its the very early grey/black trim I was searching for and pretty good for its age. Fronts are like Recaro style and the back has a semi-2 seat bench, unlike the CL spec 60/40 split.

#Clean out/up
Cleared out the spares/tools and crap that have been filling it up for ages. Slotted the seats in and hoovered the carpet, cleaned the door shuts and round the doors and tailgate. This uncovered no rust and lots of factory shiny blue paint. Looked like it had never been cleaned.

#Number plate lights
Sorted the annoying number plate light fault which turned out to be no more than a duff bulb. Still had to break the lenses to remove the rusty screws and swap it though.

#Tailgate plinth
As this means removing the tailgate handle (plinth) bit I swapped it for a nice smooth colour coded one found on late spec GTi's and Rallye's. That will help clean up the rear end a bit.

#Single wiper
With the old wipers coming of the worn rods all the time I had to fit the single wiper conversion. Took 10 minutes and a bit of swearing but it's in, works great and looks cool.

#Alloys
Gave the black matt rims a very quick blast of silver to see how bad the bubbling/kerbing was. The difference it's made is vast. The rims look bigger and the whole car seems to have changed. They're not my choice of rim, but will do till I can find something more motorsport.

Pics tomorrow!!!

i look forward to seeing the pics Icon_smile
Its been stood for months due to other projects but today I dug it out of the overgrown garden, fitted a good battery and fired up the Syncro.

To its credit it started first time and after releasing the rear brakes (stuck shoes) it was moving just like when it was left there. A jet wash to remove the crud and its back to respectable.

I have decided to strip it out, ditching the GTi interior, carpet, parcel shelf&brackets, trim, headlining and any other unnecessary crap I can lose to save weight. Other Golf owners doing the same have made great improvements just by this alone.

I've managed to get new wheel bearings, brake pads, shoes, discs and drums, plus all the strut bushes required to tighten the tired suspension up. I just need springs and struts, plus a Rallye a/r bar to get the running gear as tight as new, even moreso if I can obtain the awkward lowering springs.

Some white motorsport rims (Compo, Speedline or OZ), some rally graphics and a few exterior mods will bring the outside into line while buckets, harnesses and a cage will sort inside. The grille and lights are sold and will be replaced with a GTi grille in black with 'Limited' blue trim. Also want a proper VW Motorsport badge for it and a matching sunstrip, just like the 80's rally car.

Anyway...heres the last pic of it as it stands. More pics tomorrow.
Jetta front removed (and sold!) and GTi twin light setup installed, ready for a 'Limited' style grille.

Also got a new screen ready to swap the cracked one for.
Due to the Mk1 project taking over everything the Syncro hasn't had as much love as I would have liked over the last month.

However I have picked up a few bits and the front end is now fitted with round lights and the GTi style grille.

Managed to get some 50/50 tint lights at Summerfest to replace the Hella blue tints - think they make a massive difference:

Along with the Motorsport theme I bought some OZ Superturismo 17's off a Maxxd member. It was a bit of a whim as they are probably a touch too big, but having seen a Rallye on 17's I love the look.

Here's a trial fit, they fill the arches lovely. Tyres now needed:

Final thought for the day. Now the Mk1 is close to complete I needed a plan for this Golf so I rustled up this Photoshop image for inspiration.

Comments welcomed
Your a nutter, ill give you that!

I love the motorsport look, and this thing will have the grunt to back it up too! Icon_biggrin
After coilovers now.

I sorted the AWD conversion plumbing out so now it grips on demand. Total control :-)
