Alloy metal polishing

hi, im having a go at bare metal polishing a wheel at the minute.

so far i have rubbed it back down to bare metal using 180 grit, then 400grit wet and dry paper. obviously i need to go to much finer grades, like 800, 1200 etc

the thing is i want the finish to be 'mirror' can anyone tell me what sort of polishing compounds i will need or will a realy fine wet&dry, autosol, and loads of effort surfice?

any help would be great. cheers. Icon_smile

it would take an awful lot of work by hand. ideally it needs buffing with something like this but being alloy it is naturally dull in finish. wheels with shiney lips etc. usually have a stainless steel lip because it is easier to achieve a shiney/near mirror finish.
theres plenty of firms that specialise in polishing work like this but due to the time to do it by hand it costs an awful lot of cash.
easier and cheaper to either refurb or have chrome plated tbh.
